This hook was made with mild steel that measured 3/16″ x 1-1/2″. I punched the holes over the pritchel hole, instead of drilling. A decorative pattern on the face was put in with a chisel.

A piece of rebar works great as a hold down. One end is inside the pritchel hole, and then tapping down from the top holds the piece firmly to the face of the anvil.

A sharp chisel makes for easy work when the steel is hot. You can use it to make any decorative pattern.

Flat tongs worked well for this flat stock, but you have to make sure the jaw spacing is correct. The jaws should be parallel to the work piece to achieve maximum surface contact. You can watch the video here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_tVbwL4POUs&t=53s
